This map, created by G. Campos and published by the Institute of Giennenses Studies in 1960, shows the city of Jaén.
After four decades in which the population had grown from 33,000 to 65,000 inhabitants, the city had to expand. This happened with the first urban expansion, which took place during the 1950s and had two main axes towards the north: Paseo de la Estación (Paseo del Generalísimo Franco on the map) and Avenida de Madrid. Between these two avenues stood Plaza de la Concordia (Plaza de la Victoria on the map) and the old Estadio de la Victoria, which was demolished in 2001.
The map is oriented with west at the top. Santa Catalina Castle is located there, although it does not appear on the map. This was probably a design decision by the author, as the distance from the castle to the city centre would have meant that the urban area would have to be represented smaller.
