Road map of Germany (1950)

This road map of Germany was published in 1950 by ADAC (General German Motor Club), a German motoring association.

The map, distributed as a pocket map, includes the country's main roads, as well as the main cities they connect and the distance between them:

  • The red lines show conventional roads.
  • The double red lines represent the motorway network.
  • The red circles on the motorways correspond to the motorway access and exit points.
  • The red numbers show the distance of each journey.
  • The black lines correspond to rivers.

This map is recognised as one of the first to show a country's motorway network, as well as access points and rest areas. Before the Second World War, Germany had the most kilometres of motorway built in Europe. Despite the destruction, after the war it still had more kilometres than any other European country.
